BROWNSVILLE, Texas –Friday, Sept. 18, 2026 – The Port of Brownsville is celebrating 90 years of service to the Rio Grande Valley with its 90th Anniversary Grand Community Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Port of Brownsville Business Park.

Held every five years, the Anniversary Grand Community Celebration commemorates the port’s opening on May 16, 1936. From its early days moving agricultural products to markets across the world, the Port of Brownsville has helped transform the region’s economic landscape and now supports diverse industries including shipbuilding, ship recycling, steel, energy, construction, and space.

As the only deepwater seaport directly on the U.S.-Mexico border, the port plays a vital role in international trade and continues to create jobs and economic opportunities throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Texas.

This year’s celebration will include boat and bus tours of the port, a dedicated Kids Port activity area, live entertainment, free food, equipment exhibits, and educational displays from harbor partners across the region. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Port of Brownsville last hosted this milestone celebration in 2021 for its 85th anniversary, drawing approximately 4,000 attendees. This year’s event aims to build on that turnout with expanded activities and attractions for the whole family.

Bus and boat tour registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close after all seats are reserved.

The Port of Brownsville is a secured area. Adults must present a valid government-issued photo identification card to enter the Port. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
